Email with OTP Verification
Request an email address with OTP verification
Never again deal with fake email addresses in your forms.
In this video we show how to request an email address from a user using a form. The email address entered by the user will be validated with an one-time-password (OTP) sent to the entered email before the user is allowed to proceed further. This ensures your forms will result in email addresses.
- Browse to the forms page page by clicking the Forms item in the navigation menu.
- Click the prominent Create New Form button to create a new form.
- In the email widget configuration panel, adjust the parameters to your requirements. A good idea is to explain why you need the email address and assure the user about what it will used for.
- For email validation using OTP, you need to turn on the option Validate email using OTP. Without this option, no validation is performed and you may end up with fake email addresses.
- Once you are done tweaking the parameters, click Save Changes.
- After that, you can change the form name, and click Save to save the form.
Publishing the email request form
This is the second part of the video demonstrating the creation and use of an email verification form. We show you how to publish the form created in the previous step.
- From the forms page page, click on the email validation form created in the previous step. This opens the form for editing.
- Click on the Email Address step in the form configuration at the right side of the page.
- Verify that the parameters shown match your requirements. If not edit the parameters and click Save Changes to update the configutation. Finally click the Save button above the form name to save the form.
- Now click the Publish button. A popup will appear warning that the form will now be available to anybody with the URL.
- When you click Yes, Publish It, the form will be published and the popup will be updated to show the URL at which it is available.
- Let us now check the Share tab on the page. It shows the public URL at which the form has been published. You can click Copy to copy the URL to the clipboard to paste it somewhere else, an email maybe.
- You could also click the Open in New Window icon to open the form directly. You can now use the form as a normal user and check out how it works.
- Below the URL is the QR-code for the URL. You can scan it with your mobile to open the URL in your mobile. You could also copy the image and paste it on social media to invite users to participate in your survey.
In the next part of the video, we will see how to use the form as a normal user and how it works to verify the email address entered.
Using the email request form
This is the third part of the video demonstrating the creation and use of an email verification form. We show you how to use the form published in the previous step to enter the OTP (one-time-password) sent the email address entered in the form.
- Click the form's public URL to begin using it.
- First, a welcome screen will be shown. You can configure this screen to show general information about your survey and maybe how you are going to use the results of the survey.
- Click the Next button at the bottom of the screen to move to the next step.
- We are now at the email entry step. Since we chose Validate email address with an OTP, you will need to enter an email address and click the Get OTP button before you will be allowed to proceed to the next step.
- Once you click Get OTP, an email will be sent to the email address you entered with a 4-digit code. A popup will appear asking for the OTP from the sent email.
- Check that email account for the email and enter the OTP found in the email into the popup and click the Confirm OTP button.
- If the OTP entered is correct, a message appears below the email address confirming the fact.
- The Next button is now active and you may click to proceed to the next step.
- If the OTP entered is not correct, you will be informed and given a chance to change the email address if necessary and request the OTP again.
And this is how you use the Email Validation using OTP widget in Teramine Forms to keep out fake email addresses.
